Distinguished Speaker Series: Can Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Technologies Make Cities Smarter?
3 July 2020
Speaker: Satish Ukkusuri
Affiliation: Purdue University
Time: 09:00–10:00 (Tokyo time)
This webinar will feature Satish Ukkusuri of Purdue University who will discuss the recent paradigm shift in smart mobility towards Mobility as a Service (MaaS) systems. Ukkusuri will explain how these technology-based shared mobility solutions such as Uber, Didi, Grab, and other ridesharing services aimed at relieving congestion and improving sustainability may have mixed benefits for cities. Ukkusuri will use big data to quantify the inequalities and externalities that such technologies can impose on cities and describe how regulations can make MaaS systems more equitable. He will also discuss COVID-19’s impact on transit passenger ridership and how to safely reopen modes of transportation.
