Countries in Asia and the Pacific have committed to developing climate actions and scaling up climate finance to respond to the climate emergency and achieve low-carbon development. Yet, the region needs substantial finance to materialize its goals. In November 2023, the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) and the  Asian Development Bank (ADB) launched the Asian Climate Finance Dialogue, a joint initiative to facilitate understanding of climate-related information disclosure and the various approaches adopted by jurisdictions. It aims to promote appropriate policy actions by governments, financial supervisors, and financial regulators to better manage the risks of decarbonization and scale up climate finance.

Against this backdrop, this 2-day capacity building workshop will focus on corporate climate disclosure and bring together policy makers from regulators across Asia and the Pacific. It will build understanding of the key concepts of corporate climate disclosure to address the climate emergency (e.g., transition risks, physical risks, and net zero carbon neutrality), existing standards (e.g., from the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)), challenges in implementing these standards, the tracking of greenhouse gas emissions including scope 3 emissions, and country and business case studies. Participants will also share experiences on the progress in implementing corporate climate disclosure, challenges, and lessons learned within their countries.

  • Strengthen the capacities of government and regulatory agencies’ officers on corporate climate disclosure and the ISSB Standards (i.e., Scope 3 emissions data disclosure)
  • Promote appropriate policy actions by governments and financial regulators to accelerate the implementation of these standards to scale up climate finance while ensuring financial stability
  • Stimulate policy dialogue on these topics and share international best practices from diverse DMC contexts
Target Participants
  • Enhanced understanding of corporate climate-related information disclosure
  • Policy recommendations for improving Scope 3 emissions data and disclosure
  • Shared experiences on best practices and challenges associated with disclosure standards, reporting, and availability of data from the private sector and commercial lenders, among other topics to better manage climate-induced risks
