Climate Change and the Financial Industry in Japan

Event | 3 October 2018 ADBI, Tokyo, Japan
Time of event

09:00–18:00

Background

With the G20’s efforts to address the challenge of global warming through collective action, it is imperative that climate change is seen as a public goods problem that demands a collective response and a capital-intensive transition, supported by a mixture of public and private investment. At the same time, vulnerability to natural disasters must also be considered. This why central banks and financial regulators must play a positive role to map and identify climate change-related risks.

This one-day workshop will be led by the Japan Center for International Finance (JCIF). The goal is to discuss the financial industry in Japan with JCIF members and participants from banks, life and general insurance companies, securities companies, government agencies, and so on. Session topics will range from promoting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) finance and investment in Japan, to moving ahead on the implementation of disclosures based on the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.
