Recent crises have given impetus to closer international cooperation among bank supervisors. This seminar will feature Dr Thorsten Beck of Cass Business School who will discuss the importance of cross-border supervisory cooperation.
Dr Beck will document distortions in supervisory decisions that arise from national supervision of cross-border banks, examine trade-offs in moving from national to supranational supervision, and provide empirical evidence on the factors explaining cross-border supervisory cooperation and its consequences.
About the Speaker
Thorsten Beck is Professor of Banking and Finance at Cass Business School in London. He is also a research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research and CESifo.
His research focuses on the relationship between finance and economic development as well as policies needed to build a sound and effective financial system.
Previously he was Professor of Economics at Tilburg University from 2008-2014 and the founding chair of the European Banking Center from 2008 to 2013. He also worked in the World Bank’s research department and as a consultant for the European Central Bank, Bank of England, Bank for International Settlements, IMF, European Commission, and German Development Corporation.
He holds a PhD from the University of Virginia and an MA from the University of Tübingen in Germany.
