Description
Empowering women to participate fully in economic and social life is essential to building strong economies, establishing stable and just societies, and improving the quality of life for men, women, and our communities.
Under ADB’s Strategy 2030, gender equality is one of seven operational priorities. By 2030, 75% of committed projects and programs will promote gender equality.
ADB celebrates Gender Month during March every year as an opportunity to reflect on progress made in promoting gender equality and encourage increased participation of women in building a stronger and more prosperous Asia and the Pacific region.
With the theme, "Women Leading Towards an Equal, Greener and More Resilient Future," Gender Month 2022 will celebrate and recognize the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, building a more sustainable future for all.

Women are disproportionally affected by the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services, and nature-based solutions (NBS) offer a novel range of opportunities for women--from obtaining meaningful employment to strengthening their participation in decision-making. Nature-based solutions provide innovative pathways to addressing a broad range of challenges related to climate change adaption and mitigation, ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss, socio-economic development, disaster reduction, and human health. These solutions are often overlooked because of their simplicity, but they can offer practical and affordable results with multiple long-term benefits for women and nature. Incorporating gender into NBS can positively contribute to sustainable development goals gender equality and alleviate the challenges women face in their daily lives.
