Description

Asian Development Bank’s Central and West Asia Department and the Gender Equality Thematic Group of the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department are commemorating International Women’s Month through a virtual subregional workshop of ADB partners in Central and West Asia entitled "Investing in Women: Advancing the Transformative Gender Agenda in Central and West Asia in a Post-COVID-19 Environment," to be held on 9–10 March 2022 at 2:00–4:00 p.m. (Manila time). The event examines the pandemic’s gendered impacts, barriers to gender-responsive planning and programming, and the recovery strategies of government and other development actors and their impact on women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Objectives

The workshop aims to deepen the participants’ understanding of the gendered impacts of the pandemic in Central and West Asia and the good practices and gender-responsive innovations of governments and other development actors in the context of post-COVID-19 recovery. It also aims to analyze barriers to gender-sensitive program planning and implementation of pandemic responses. The workshop will discuss the results of ADB’s study on "Gendered Impacts of COVID-19 in Central and West Asia: Opportunities and Lessons for Gender-Responsive Public Investments."
