Description
At the beginning of 2022, Asia and the world seemed poised for an economic recovery as the COVID-19 pandemic began to recede. Unfortunately, additional shocks unsettled the nascent recovery, hindering the progress that had been underway. Cost of living pressures rose as prices of energy and food spiked in 2022. The webinar will present findings from Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2023 focusing on the lingering impact of the pandemic and increased cost of living crisis on living conditions of people living in poverty. A panel of experts from the government and development community will discuss the report’s implications as we maneuver our way to get back on track in eradicating poverty by 2030.
Objectives
Attendees will engage with the panelists to:
- Examine how developing Asia’s poor and vulnerable people coped with increased cost of living and post-pandemic environment.
- Identify strategies that can address some of the persistent sources of socioeconomic disadvantage among the poor, including poverty premium where the poor pay more to buy select goods and access basic services.
- Explore effective programs that can amplify economic resilience of the poor in the face of future crises and other development challenges.
