Background

Dr Ulrich Volz of SOAS University of London will present the findings of a survey of 18 central banks and regulatory authorities from Asia and the Pacific on the importance of incorporating climate and environmental risk into their operations and its potential role in scaling up sustainable finance. He will also examine the progress of efforts by the region’s financial regulators to align financial systems with sustainable development as well as keys to enhancing their climate and environmental risk mitigation capacities.

About the Speaker

Ulrich Volz is the Founding Director of the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance and a Reader in Economics at SOAS University of London. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the German Development Institute and an Honorary Professor of Economics at the University of Leipzig. He previously served as Head of the Department of Economics at SOAS and as a Member of the University’s Executive Board.

He is Chairman of the Japan Economy Network and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Asia Europe Journal. He also serves on the Advisory Council of ADBI and the Board of Sufinda, the Sustainable Financial Data Initiative.
