Trust Funds in the Pacific: Operation and Performance Update

Background

Christopher Edmonds is senior economist in the Pacific Department at ADB, where he looks after much of the Department’s economics research and is editor-in-chief of the Pacific Economic Monitor. He is also responsible for managing ADB’s work on a number of technical assistance projects in the Pacific Region—including acting as chair of ADB’s Impact Evaluation Committee — and joins project teams preparing ADB loan and grant projects. His publications include articles in the Asian Development Review, Agricultural Economics, Journal of Asian Economics, Journal of Sustainable Development, and Journal of Travel Research.

Objectives

  • To review developments in trust and sovereign wealth funds held by Pacific Island countries.
  • To assess the characteristics, diversity, sources of funds, and the performance of funds against their stated goals and international standards.
  • To provide recommendations for improving fund management and performance based on the review.

Participants

About 20 participants including policy makers, academics, outside researchers, and the general public.

Output

Better understanding of the trust and sovereign wealth funds held by Pacific Island countries.
