Beyond the picture-perfect landscape, the Federated States of Micronesia is a country facing significant development issues. Its territory and population are at risk due to geographic vulnerability, fiscal instability and a stagnant economy.
In 2012, the Federated States of Micronesia government outlined its plans for social and economic development with a focus on local ownership of the process combined with strong support from international development partners, such as ADB. This has included working to make the government operate more efficiently and supporting the growth of a vibrant, job-creating private sector.
The Federated States of Micronesia has a long way to go to achieve its goal of financial sustainability, economic and social development. But the country is making steady progress by building a foundation for growth with improved infrastructure and social services for its people.
