ADB-Finland-Partnership: Education for all

Education is a major pillar in achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific.

Leena Viljanen, Alternate Executive Director, ADB:

Developing countries in Asia and the Pacific have come a long way in improving access to quality education, from having two-thirds of the world’s out-of-school children in the 1970s, to having 9 out of 10 children overall in the region enrolled in primary school by 2018.

Jukka Tulivuori, Social Sector Specialist, ADB:

Despite the good access to education, challenges still remain, especially with learning outcomes. Also, COVID-19 has been a major game-changer, and it has shown us the importance of remote learning and teaching. The Asian Development Bank has been providing financial and advisory assistance to its developing member countries to tackle the key education challenges.
