I am proud to be a member of the team that prepared this new Country Partnership Strategy, and I am very excited about its implementation.

I find the new strategy innovative and transformational, and also very green.

Its emphasis on environmentally sustainable development and climate change adaptation and mitigation is closely aligned with the government’s objectives to peak emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

By doing so, we are taking our partnership with the People’s Republic of China to a new step after 35 years of successful cooperation.

ADB is supporting government efforts to achieve high-quality, green development under the 14th Five-Year Plan through a new Country Partnership Strategy covering 2021 to 2025.

Investments and knowledge work will focus on three inter-related strategic priorities: Environmentally sustainable development, Climate change adaptation and mitigation, and an aging society and health security.

ADB Resident Mission in the PRC

Within the three strategic priorities of the new strategy, ADB operations will transform innovative ideas into projects and produce practical experiences on how to address key development challenges, such as pollution, ecological restoration, and aging population.

These projects will demonstrate new models and produce valuable lessons that can be shared with other countries facing similar challenges.

Distilling these rich lessons into knowledge that can be shared as a public good will have powerful development impact in the PRC and the region.
