Description The objective of the project is to improve the socioeconomic status of women through an integrated approach. The components of the project shall include: (i) institutional development and strengthening of women's community organizations; (ii) support for income generating activities by facilitating access to existing services in credit and savings, marketing and business management and skills development; (iii) construction of community-managed time-saving small-scale infrastructures such as improved water supply and sanititation services, grinding mills and alternative energy saving devices; (iv) legal literacy/gender awareness/empowerment issues. Measurable outcomes include the accumulation of capital through increased savings by poor women; enhanced women's income due to stronger women's organizations, access to labor-saving infrastructure, access to credit and skills training; an improved socio-economic environment for women to participate in decision-making processes that affect them, and better awareness by women of their basic legal rights.

Consulting Services The TA will require 4 months of international consultants and 24 person-months of domestic consultants. Expertise to be provided by the consultants include an international team leader/institutional development specialist with experience in preparing ADB PPTAs; a local team leader/rural development specialist; a microcredit specialist, a community development specialist and a legal literacy specialist.
