The project aimed to rehabilitate and widen the existing road to provide a high quality, four-lane dual carriageway, with a high strength concrete surface, that was selected to reduce long-term maintenance costs, given the difficulty of maintaining roads in a harsh environment. To strengthen Uzbekistan’s road network against the effects of climate change, the project also procured equipment for the construction of bored piles for bridge foundations. Its aim was to increase the overall resilience of the country’s road network by increasing the capability to construct more resilient bridge foundations.
