The proposed additional financing will increase the scope of the project to complete the modernization of the railway network in eastern Uzbekistan. It will eliminate gaps in signaling and telecommunications systems that are crucial for the safe and efficient operation of trains; boost the amount of freight and passenger trains; reduce the risk of trains from landslides; and improve the capacity of railway staff, including women, in modern train management techniques.
