India: Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Investment Program—Tranche 1

The investment program aimed to focus on strengthening the state-level capacity for coastal protection in the states of Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra under ADB's multitranche financing facility. This modality enabled ADB to allow the interventions be designed, based on the specific needs of each state’s executing agency, including the protection of land and beaches and addressing the causes of erosion, and the provision of natural protection measures using dunes or mangroves. Tranche 1 envisaged separate implementation arrangements for each state to enable environmentally and socially appropriate institutional arrangements, including community and private sector participation. The expected outcome was protected and managed shorelines in the three states, and a protected environment that meets the needs of stakeholders.

This report validated the completion report's assessment of the project. IED overall assessment: Successful.
