ADBI Session on Green Hydrogen for Emission Mitigation (14th International Conference on Applied Energy)

10 August 2022 Bochum, Germany and Online

Time of Event

20:00 - 22:00 Tokyo time

Summary

Green hydrogen produced from water electrolysis with zero-carbon electricity could play a significant role in the fight against climate change, with benefits including zero emissions and high-energy density and versatility. However, green hydrogen production and widespread use face enormous obstacles, such as cost inefficiency and infrastructure limitations.

Held as part of the 14th International Conference on Applied Energy, this ADBI session examined green hydrogen’s potential to curb emissions and help tackle climate change. It focused on ways to build the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of green hydrogen production, conversion, storage, and utilization. This included policy and financing recommendations for developing countries in Asia and the Pacific and globally.

Objectives
  • Discuss the outlook for green hydrogen development and its implications for emissions mitigation
  • Highlight barriers to green hydrogen growth, particularly in developing Asia and the Pacific
  • Identify policy solutions and financing approaches for boosting the viability of green hydrogen as an alternative, climate-friendly fuel
Target Participants
  • Policy makers and experts from think tanks, universities, and international organizations, as well as post-graduate students, media, and other interested members of the public
Output
  • Enhanced understanding of green hydrogen’s capacity to reduce emissions and combat climate change
  • Identification of production and utilization challenges
  • Policy and financing guidance for boosting green hydrogen growth in developing countries in Asia and the Pacific and globally
Partners
  • 14th International Conference on Applied Energy
