Description The objective of the technical assistance (TA) is to formulate a project for accelerating economic activities in agriculture in the northwest region by transforming subsistence agriculture into market oriented farm production in response to the opening of Bangabandu (Jamuna) Bridge that has created new opportunities in the region. The output of the TA will be a detailed proposal for possible external financing of the proposed investment project The Project will (i) raise yield of rice, wheat, maize, and horticulture crops by ensuring timely availability of quality inputs through expansion and development of existing seed supply facilities, especially those in private sector; (ii) establish appropriate credit delivery mechanism to promote agricultural development and agribusiness and provide credits to farmers and entrepreneurs in the region through such mechanism; (iii) promote extension services for crop intensification/diversification and aquaculture on a contract or partnership basis to provide the best services during proven technology; (iv) improve marketing systems including establishment of reliable market information system, improvement of packaging and post-harvest facilities and market development for high value fruit and vegetable for the domestic and export markets; and (v) establish a decentralized authority in Bogra that will coordinate the support and inputs of a range of Government agencies and NGOs expected to be involved under the Project.
