Description The PPTA will prepare a feasibility report for the Basic Education Project for consideration by the Government and the Bank. The focus of the Project will be (i) to promote more equitable access to basic education for people living in selected remote areas, and for girls and other disadvantaged groups; (ii) improve the quality of basic education (particularly primary education) through improved preservice and in-service teacher training; and (iii) strengthen Government capacity for policy-making, planning, and managing the delivery of more efficient and better quality basic education services, particularly in the area of teacher training.

Consulting Services The Bank will engage four international consultants - (i) teacher training specialist/team leader (7 person-months); (ii) teacher training curriculum development specialist (3.5 person-months); (iii) education economist (2.5 person-months); and (iv) institutional capacity development specialist (4 person-months); and five domestic consultants - (i) teacher training curriculum (6 person-months); (ii) training needs assessment (4 person-months); (iii) architecture (2 person-months); (iv) teacher training policy/institution development (4 person-months); and (v) social development (5 person-months).
