Description | The Project will (i) remove power supply bottlenecks in selected power substations and medium-voltage transmission lines in Java; (ii) interconnect outer island power grids; and (iii) provide information and communication technology (ICT)-based equipment for a competitive electricity market and consulting services to supervise its installation.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy | The strategic objectives of the ADB power sector in operations in Indonesia include (i) removing power supply bottlenecks in the Java-Bali medium voltage transmission grid, and (ii) to interconnect the outer island grids. This will be achieved by adding power transformers, switchyard bays, upgrading and adding 150 kV transmission lines, augmenting sub-station capacity thereby improving the quality of power supply and reducing losses. The interconnection between South Kalimantan and East Kalimantan will result in economies of scale, provide operational flexibility and maximize the use of resources.
Impact | Ensure quality, reliability, security and affordability of electricity and create facilities for a competitive electricity market in Java-Bali |
