Progress Toward Outcome

The 6,200 residents of Kolonia (Pohnpei) are benefiting through improved sewage treatment and water quality at the Kolonia Port and less frequent overflows from the Kolonia sewage network.

Improvements to the electricity supply on Weno Island in Chuuk is providing reliable and continuous electricity to more than 95% of residents of Weno (approximately 16,000). Residents now enjoy a continuous electricity supply compared to an average of 4 hours per day in 2010.

The rehabilitation and expansion of the Gagil-Tomil water supply is providing a safe and reliable water supply to the 1,500 residents of Tomil-Gagil. A contract to expand the water supply to about 300 households in Maap, which are currently un-serviced, is scheduled to be commissioned by December 2015.

Status of Implementation Progress (Outputs, Activities, and Issues)

Kolonia sewage treatment plant and major sewage pump stations were commissioned in February 2014. A management of the upgraded and augmented Kolonia sewage treatment plant is ongoing. Rehabilitation of the Kolonia sewerage network was completed in August 2012.

Chuuk - Two 1.145MW diesel-fired generators were commissioned in February 2012. Upgrading of the entire Weno electricity distribution system is 85% complete and is expected to be fully completed by December 2015.

Yap Works to upgrade and expand the Gagil-Tomil water supply system were commissioned in March 2012. Works to develop new water sources and to expand the water supply to Maap (to service approximately 1,200 people) are expected to be completed by December 2015.

Kosrae A contract to rehabilitate the Utwe water supply was awarded in December 2013. The works are expected to be commissioned in November 2015.

Minor land acquisition has been undertaken in Chuuk, Kosrae and Yap for project components. Currently, the project has no resettlement issues.

No land acquisition was required for project components in Pohnpei.
