Description The proposed Project seeks to enhance income and employment opportunities through increased and sustainable commercialization of agriculture and development of agribusiness. It aims to diversify agricultural production and enhance value added in the marketing system. It will aim to improve business practices that are critical to agribusiness development, and the potential for business profit will be critical to the improvement of business practices. The project will comprise five components that will be implemented in the selected states which were covered by the detailed feasibility study, and for selected horticultural value chains: (i) marketing intelligence; (ii) technology dissemination and development; (iii) value-chain linkage development; (iv) market infrastructure development; and project management.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy

Greater value of horticulture products captured by the stakeholders of the integrated value chain (IVC) in

selected regions of Bihar and Maharashtra.

Project Outcome
Description of Outcome Private and public sectors invest and private sector manages at least 8 IVCs for horticultural HVC, which are inclusive of small scale farmers.
Progress Toward Outcome Progress has been slow for both Bihar and Maharashtra. The government, with support from ADB, will explore alternative options for achieving the outcome.
