Pakistan : Punjab Irrigated Agriculture Development Sector Project
The overall goal is to improve rural livelihoods and reduce rural poverty through improved irrigation service delivery, enhanced agricultural practices, and strengthened water resources and environmental management to increase the productivity of irrigated agriculture in Punjab. The TA and the ensuing project have the following interrelated objectives: (i) improve water resources management at all levels in LBDC, (ii) strengthen capacity and institutional frameworks to manage irrigated agriculture and water resources for improved productivity and enhanced environmental sustainability, (iii) rehabilitate and modernize irrigation and water resources infrastructure and stimulate sustainable O&M, and (iv) enhance the enabling environment for improved agricultural productivity.

| Consulting Services | It is anticipated that additional co-financing will be avaiable bringing the total TA amount to approximately $1.1 million. A consulting firm will be recruited that will have the following skills or specializations among others: irrigation and drainage design and engineering; hydraulic engineering; water users associations and irrigation management transfer; irrigation policy and institutions; integrated water resources management; agriculture; economics; social assessment and social safeguards; and environment. |
