Description The main objective of TEAP is to contribute to sustainability of economic growth by minimizing the devastating impact of the tsunami. To attain this objective , economic recovery needs to be accelerated by assisting in reconstructing the damaged infrastructure and restoring means of livelihood, especially of the poor, in the affected islands.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy ADB's strategy for the Maldives, which is primarily based on the Government's Vision 2020 and the 6th National Development Plan, has supported the Government?s regional development efforts. The Government has stressed that, despite the tsunami, the country?s long-term development priorities are unchanged. However, by once again exposing the acute vulnerability of the country to natural disasters, the tsunami has prompted the Government to elevate the priority of its focus islands program and the provision of greater disaster mitigation. The TEAP is fully in line with this priority.
