The proposed Project will contribute to the country's sustainable and equitable agricultural growth by increasing the competitiveness of agriculture and agro-based products and improving linkages among stakeholders (producers, traders, product processors and consumers). It will increase commodity and product values along their supply chains, and facilitate more upstream capture of rents arising from increased values. The expected outcome of the TA is a detailed project proposal for enhancing the quality and safety of agricultural products, and will lead to (i) improved quality and safety standards of agricultural and agro-based products, (ii) increased number of viable small- and medium-sized enterprises entering in agriculture and agro-industry, and (iii) improved capacity of farmers, central and local-level government institutions, and private enterprises in promoting and adapting to the relevant market value chains.
