The overall objective of the TA is to prepare for an investment program which will improve road linkage of the East-West highway to North-South Corridor and thereby strengthen road connectivity to major economic activities center and neighboring countries. It will increase the capacity and efficiency of the road network in the country and promote economic growth, better access to rural produce, and domestic as well as regional trade. This will improve transport reliability and provide cost-effective transport links and bring considerable savings in both travel time and costs.
The fast track road is expected to shorten the travel distance from Kathmandu to Terai by 150km, and save travel time by about 3 hours.

Consulting Services | The TA will be implemented over 11 months, beginning in February 2007 and ending in January 2008, including two months for Government's decision on preferred alignment when no consulting services will be required. A multidisciplinary team of international consultants in association with national consultants will provide about 13 person-months of international and 40 person-months of national inputs. The consultants will have expertise in (i) institutional and private sector development, (ii) trade and transport economics, (iii) road and tunnel engineering, (iv) road safety, (v) environment, (vi) resettlement, and (vi) social development. All consultants will be selected and recruited using the quality- and cost-based selection method, in accordance with ADB's Guidelines on the Use of Consultants. |
