Regional : Greater Mekong Subregion Flood and Drought Risk Management and Mitigation Project
The Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) will improve the ability of communities in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Viet nam to prepare for, respond to, and recover from the negative impact of floods and droughts. The Project has prepared three separate investment projects (CAM, LAO, VIE) to provide financing for appropriate flood risk management and drought risk management interventions in each country. The outcome of the Project is the improved ability of communities and governments to prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood and drought events.

| Description | The Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) will improve the ability of communities in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Viet nam to prepare for, respond to, and recover from the negative impact of floods and droughts. The Project has prepared three separate investment projects (CAM, LAO, VIE) to provide financing for appropriate flood risk management and drought risk management interventions in each country. The outcome of the Project is the improved ability of communities and governments to prepare for, respond to, and recover from flood and drought events. Key activities of the RETA are (i) identifying and prioritizing flood and drought issues in each country (including CAM, LAO, VIE and THA) through the development of a regional and national road-maps for improved flood and drought risk management; (ii) developing a prioritized program of structural and nonstructural FRM and DRM interventions in each country; and (iii) preparing feasibility studies for national investment programs in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam based on the county-specific prioritized program of interventions. The ensuing loans for CAM, LAO and VIE were approved in Quarter 4 2012. Remaing RETA resources are being used in 2013 to support the respective EAs in project start-up activities. |

| Status of Implementation Progress (Outputs, Activities, and Issues) | The country roadmaps were submitted in the first half of 2010. The Regional Road Map was submitted in December 2010. The Final Reports for each country were submitted on 11 November 2011. The investment projects were approved on 6 November 2012 (LAO and VIE) and 12 December 2012 (CAM). All the financing agreements have been signed (CAM 17 January 2013, LAO 4 December 2012, and VIE 21 December 2012). The LAO project is expected to be effective in March 2013, CAM in April 2013 and VIE in May 2013. |

The consultations with national, provincial, district, and community stakeholders, held throughout the design phase of the country investment projects, ensured that the proposed investments are appropriately targeted and addressed the needs of the vulnerable communities. |
