Indonesia : Rural Infrastructure Support to PNPM Mandiri Project
ADB is supporting Indonesia's community-driven rural infrastructure development program, PNPM Mandiri. The project will help repair and expand infrastructure services, including water and sanitation, health, education, and transport, in 1,724 villages in the provinces of Jambi, Lampung, Riau, and South Sumatra.

| Description | The Project will improve the socioeconomic conditions of the rural communities in the project area. | Environmental Aspects | The project is categorized as environmental category B. The initial environmental examination was prepared for sample infrastructure intervention. As the project follows a sector-like approach, the environmental assessment and review framework has been prepared to guide each of the project villages to carry out envionmental screening during village/ rural infrastructure formulation and facilities compliance with the environment requirements of the Government of Indonesia and ADB during project implementation. |

| Consulting Services | Consultants engaged and financed under the ADB loan were recruited in line with ADB's Guidelines on the Use of Consultants. Consulting services will be designed to assist the national, provincial, and district governments, as well as village organizations and local communities to (i) empower communities and ensure participation in project implementation; (ii) provide technical and managerial support to project management and implementation units; (iii) establish a sound financial management and monitoring system, and (iv) develop and implement a project performance management system. |
| Procurement | All procurement was carried out in accordance with ADB's Guidelines on Procurement. Civil works for rural infrastructure rehabilitation will be contracted out to the communities in compliance with the requirements for community participation in procurement as specified in ADB's procurement guidelines. |
