Regional : Strengthening Sound Environmental Management in the Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area
The objective of the regional technical assistance (RETA) is to (i) provide technical and advisory assistance to ongoing inter-governmental and national environmental initiatives (e.g. HOB, SSME, and haze); (ii) create linkages and synergies between existing environmental projects; (iii) strengthen regional policy dialogue and coordination in managing cross-border issues; and (iv) strengthen management of natural systems and resources and improve environmental quality. The RETA shall provide technical and advisory assistance by strengthening capacity to implement the aSEA regional environment program that includes support for initiatives to address transboundary haze pollution; follow-up actions of the Trinational Declaration on the Heart of Borneo (HoB) Initiative; and supporting the implementation of the Conservation Action Plan for the Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Eco-Region (SSME).

| Progress Toward Outcome | The REP design was completed in July 2009. It was formally presented during the BIMP-EAGA Business conference on 6-7 August 2009 and the 18th BIMP-EAGA Senior Officials Meeting on 6 August 2009 as part of the Natural Resources Development Cluster milestone under the 2006-2010 Roadmap. The REP was not formally endorsed by the BIMP-EAGA SOM in 2009. However, ADB continues to provide technical support to flagship initiatives such as the SSME, CTI and HOB within the REP framework to respond to the challenges of climate change through the adoption of integrated, ecosystems-based approaches. Total grant package is approximately $20 million (2010 2013). |
