The proposed TA has four main objectives: (i) to foster the capacity of officials from finance ministries and central banks of DMCs in economic and financial surveillance (ii) to provide relevant inputs for economic policy making activities through technical training programs and researches (iii) to pave the way for AMRO to play an expected role at earliest possible time by promoting surveillance expertise built on shared principles and techniques across the region (iv) to modernize the national surveillance units in ASEAN through an intensive case study methodology which will examine their unique economic circumstances and explore their decade long achievement and regional approach to economic surveillance.

Status of Implementation Progress (Outputs, Activities, and Issues) | Two batches of training was conducted in 2010. The first batch was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea last 17 May - 11 June 2010, benefiting 35 staff from finance ministries and central banks of selected DMCs. The second batch, which was attended by 31 staff, was held in ADB Headquarters last 6 September - 1 October 2010. On 2-20 May 2011, the first batch of training for 2011 was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. An international consultant was engaged to conduct a case study on regional economic surveillance and macroeconomic policies formulated by selected countries. It tried to provide lessons and implications of establishing surveillance units in countries to prevent the occurrence of a financial crisis in the future. |
