| Description | The RETA will strengthen ADB's support for regional economic and financial surveillance for ASEAN+3. | ||||
| Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy | |||||
| Impact | This RETA is in response to a request from the co-chairs of the Working Team Three of the Taskforce on CMI Multilateralization to consider the means and scope for strengthening ADB support for regional economic and financial surveillance for ASEAN+3. This request comes against a backdrop where ASEAN+3 AFDM (ASEAN Finance Deputy Ministers) have made progress towards the multilateralization of the Chiang Mai Initiative (CMI). The multilateralization of the CMI swaps would require stronger regional and country economic and financial surveillance. It also reflects the increasing role that REMU previously and now OREI has been playing in surveillance in the post crisis-period. The RETA will examine ways in which ADB could play a role that would be complementary to other international financial institutions such as the IMF in supporting the economic and financial surveillance process at the regional level. | ||||
