Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy Many of the elevators are beyond their useful asset lives or have been inadequately maintained. Service interruptions (elevator breakdown) are common, and in some cases, elevator accidents have led to injury and death. The Government of Armenia and the Municipality of Yerevan aim at increasing safety of the elevator services in Yerevan. The SSTA will lead to a new project aiming at the replacement of the obsolete elevator stock and eventually improving the institutional arrangements and the regulatory framework.
