Description of Project Outputs | 1. Assessment of the current status of the current railways and of international railway transport in the GMS. 2. Forecast future demand for railway transport and railway based multimodal transport. 3. Recommendations on how best to meet this demand. 4. Strategy to develop a coherent GMS railway system, identifying railway corridors and insitutional developmental initiatiaves required to achieve this. 5. Plan of implementation with a prioritized list of identified projects to be implemented by 2025. . |
Status of Implementation Progress (Outputs, Activities, and Issues) | Study completed. Draft Final Report presented to the Senior Ministers' meeting in January 2010. Study for publication as soon as comments are received from GMS countries and incorporated into the Final Report. Final railway strategy framework presented at the GMS Ministerial Meeting in mid-August 2010. TA Completion Date extended until 31 December 2010. |

Consulting Services | The TA will be implemented by 2 international consultants recruited and supervised by ADB over a period of about 6 months and will require 5 person-months of intermittent input by the international experts, which will have expertise in international trade and logistics, and in railway infrastructure and operations, respecively and up to 10 person-months of intermittent national experts with experience in subregional trade and logistics and railwaya construction and operations. |
