|Description||This is a proposal for the conduct of a regional consultation to identify the priority agriculture and natural resources research (ANRR) agenda for Asia and Pacific.|
|Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy||The purpose of the regional consultation in Asia and Pacific is to determine the priority agriculture research for development factoring in the emerging development challenges and opportunities at the regional and global level. The proposal is timely as there is global awareness that agriculture and natural resources research (ANRR) investment for DMCs is urgently needed to address regioanl and global food security in a sustainable manner. It is also strategic as the CGIAR, which is the primary provider of the international public ANRR and the conduit of most of ADB's ANRR support, is in the process of identifying its ANRR agenda through regional consultations. Additionally, ADB will have to revisit its ANRR agenda to take into account the changing challenges in the region, to be in-step with the Strategy 2020, and to respond to Management's directive for the development of an ANRR strategy and action plan. The conduct of regional consultation will enable ADB to facilitate the prioritization of agriculture research for development through a consultation process in the region. In turn, utilization of resources of CGIAR and ADB for agriculture research will be more focused and strategic, and will also encourage more support from the regional stakeholders, including the private sector.|
