India : Himachal Pradesh Clean Energy Transmission Investment Program - Tranche 3
The proposed tranche 3 for $105 million will fund (i) physical investments in transmission infrastructure, including high-voltage lines and transmission substations; and (ii) investments in upgrading the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and related components. The government submitted a periodic financing request on 24 November 2017 outlining the tranche subprojects as well as techno-economic assessment and environmental and social safeguards review and analysis.

| Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy | The Indian power sector has a history of steadily increasing demand for, and chronic shortages of electricity. An adequate power supply contributes to poverty alleviation, yet over 30% of India's population lack access to electricity. Continued shortages significantly constrain commercial and industrial activity and reduce growth. Businesses and manufacturers must utilize more expensive back-up power supplies, often diesel fuel-based, which increase their costs and undercut competitiveness. Insufficient domestic fuel resources and rising international coal and oil prices threaten India's already fragile energy security, such that maximizing, clean indigenous energy sources is a government priority. | ||||

Overall, 68% progress has been achieved.(ii) Work of 66 kV D/C line from Nirmand to Kotla (33 TL) is under implementation. Overall, 76% progress has been achieved.(iii) Work of 220 kV D/C line from Mazra to Karian (30-TL) has completed 100%.(iv) Work of 400 kV D/C line from Lahal to Chamera (26-TL) is under implementation. Overall, 72% progress has been achieved.(v) Work of 220 kV D/C line from Bajoli Holi HEP to Lahal (24-TL) has completed 100%.(vi) 66 kV D/C Line from 66 kV switching station at Urni to Wangtoo substation.
