Objectives and Scope The Fund will make equtiy and equity-related investments primarily for significant minority positions in regulated financial institutions, including MFIs and SBBs in Asia and Africa. ADB's contribution to the Fund will be used exclusively for investments in Developing Member Countries (DMCs), and ADB will have an excuse right exempting it from having its capital called for non-DMC investments.
Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy ADB's Strategy 2020 identifies private sector development as a key driver of change in Asia, and financial development as one of five core specializations that supports the Bank's agenda.
Status of Development Objectives The Fund's investments lead to the increased economic contribution to the Asia-Pacific region by MFIs and SBBs greater reach to underserved clients (i.e. women and rural clients), and improved corporate governance to these institutions.
