Description | ADB's investment in the Fund is intended in the long term to help increase regional trade, economic growth, and private sector development in Asia.
Objectives and Scope | The Fund's objective is to provide appreciation of capital through private equity investments in growth oriented SMEs in ASEAN countries and the PRC, particularly companies that can benefit from the region's expanding trade and economic integration.
Status of Development Objectives | The Fund's investments promote development in a number of ways, including (i) promoting closer economic and trade links between ASEAN and the PRC; (ii) developing SMEs, which will benefit from such links; (iii) deepening regional capital markets; (iv) helping to promote balanced development and reduce the risks associated with overdependence on a limited number of traditional export markets; (v) transforming investee companies by helping them to adopt financially prudent and sustainable business practices and internationally accepted standards; and (vi) catalyzing the mobilization of long-term capital from institutional investors from both within and outside the region.
Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy | The investment in the Fund is aligned with ADB's Strategy 2020 which identifies private sector development as a key driver of change, and finance sector development as one of five core specializations that support ADB's agenda. In addition, Strategy 2020 emphasizes private sector development as a means to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth. |
