Description The proposed Second Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Improvement Project will build on ongoing efforts of the Government of Nepal and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to further improve water supply services and planning in the Kathmandu Valley.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy The proposed project will improve access and service quality of water supply services in the Kathmandu Valley by (i) financing the remaining investment gaps for Melamchi water source development, (ii) rehabilitating and expanding the water supply distribution system, and (iii) further strengthening the Kathmandu Valley''s water supply and sanitation institutions.

During Project Design Meaningful and broad consultations will be undertaken during project design, including the design of a communications strategy.
During Project Implementation The project will strengthen capacity of the water utility for customer service and communications.
Business Opportunities
Consulting Services Implementing agencies will recruit consulting firms in accordance with ADB's Guidelines on the Use of Consultants (2013, as amended from time to time). Six individual consultants (17.5 person-months) and one firm comprising seven international consultants (20 person-months) and nine national consultants (31 person-months) will be engaged by ADB to undertake the technical assistance in accordance with ADB's Guidelines on the Use of Consultants (2013, as amended from time to time). The firm will be engaged using Quality and Cost-Based Selection with 90:10 selection method and full technical proposal.
Procurement Procurement of works and goods will be carried out in accordance with ADB's Procurement Guidelines (2015, as amended from time to time).
