Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy

The GKIMP is the continuation of ADB engagement to support Bangladesh in increasing the productivity and sustainability of large scale irrigation. The proposed GKIMP aims to modernize the Ganges-Kobadak Irrigation Project (GKIP) infrastructure and establish performance-based irrigation management and agriculture support services through private sector participation.

The GKIMP feasibility studies and detailed designs are financed under the on-going Loan 3135-BAN: Irrigation Management Improvement Project (IMIP). The feasibility study is well advanced and will be completed by December 2016. The detailed design is planned to be completed by late 2017. The TA is required to undertake due diligences on the outputs produced by the project consultants, support ADB project team with preparing the project processing documentation and support the executing agency in meeting project readiness criteria for Board consideration.
