Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy Agriculture is a key sector for the Philippines, contributing one-third of total employment and one-tenth of gross domestic product (GDP). Making food available and affordable is the highest-level government's commitment made to every Filipino and the competitive agriculture sector is key to its success. Despite its importance, the agriculture sector lags behind other Southeast Asian countries in terms of production and productivity growth.
