Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy The TA will support project preparation of ADB's proposed Road Network Sustainability Project. The project will contribute to improvement of road networks in Southern Tajikistan by rehabilitating the project road sections of Bokhtar Dangara and Khulbuk Kangurt, which link directly to two major international networks (Central Asia Regional Economic Corporation [CAREC] Corridors 5 and 6, and Asian Highway No. 66) and serve as a connector of major economic centers in the region. Despite their strategic importance, the sections' condition has remained deteriorated and unequipped with necessary road safety measures. This lowers travel efficiencies, causes difficulties in movement of people and goods and subsequently constraints economic development in the region. The government requested ADB in 2019 to finance the project, which was confirmed as a 2020 pipeline project.
