India : Promoting Advanced Biofuels Through High Technology

Sovereign Project | 54222-001

This knowledge and support technical assistance (TA) aims to support India's development of biofuels through novel technological adoption and sustainable business structure. Biofuels are a renewable energy source made from organic matters or agricultural and municipal solid wastes. Its usage can be extended to energy, transport, manufacturing, and medicament in the form of bioethanol, biogas, and biodiesel. Especially, biofuels can be blended as low carbon fuels for vehicles, and treated as key tool for future green transportation. Moreover, the recent coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has highlighted a serious shortage of ethanol for used as disinfectant. The TA will focus on advanced biofuels in preparing specific development schemes with technical, financial, contractual, and capacity development arrangements and viable business and operational models.

Description This knowledge and support technical assistance (TA) aims to support India's development of biofuels through novel technological adoption and sustainable business structure.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy The TA will take a cross-sectoral solution approach to tackle various thematic issues such as energy security, transport mobility, agribusiness, financial stability, air and water pollution, waste disposal, public health, climate change, and urban-rural divide. Advanced biofuel market will provide opportunities to mitigate global warming, harness agricultural and municipal wastes, create new industries and jobs, and strengthen energy independence. This new development is expected to contribute to making transformational effects on domestic economy and society as well as regional cooperation through knowledge transfer to neighboring countries.
