Description

The project will help the Ministry of Agriculure to optimize underutilized agriculture dry land towards modern agriculture, increased farming profitability, and climate change resilience. The project is expected to contribute to COVID-19 recovery by stimulating rural economy and supporting smallholder's entrepreneurship.

Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy The proposed project will deliver an integrated investment (from land preparation to market) through a cluster approach to address the core problem of low agriculture productivity and profitability in dry land. The project will address the following key issues (i) limited value addition in agriculture; (ii) limited uptake of modern farming practices and innovations; (iii) unreliable irrigation and inadequate agricultural services; (iv) low added value of agriculture produces and limited access to market; and (v) underutilization of dry land. The project will promote climate smart agriculture (CSA) and will explore options to bring high-level technology to stimulate use of information and communication technology platforms to provide farmers with greater access to information.

Business Opportunities
Consulting Services ADB is financing consulting services for the project preparation and due diligence through the transaction technical assistance on Supporting Water Security Investments Facility (Subproject 4) and Netherlands Trust Fund under the Water Financing Partnership Facility. National firms are envisioned to be engaged to do survey, mapping, and studies either through consultant qualification selection method with biodata technical proposal or through request for quotation depending on the extend of the scope of work and financial requirements.
