This report classifies green businesses into two types: (i) environmental goods and services (EGS) such as renewable energy and pollution abatement technologies: and (ii) greening of businesses), which involves private sector firms taking active steps to change their products and/or processes to promote environmental sustainability. The latter do not necessarily produce green goods and services, but implement environmentally responsible practices to reduce their impact on the environment. We discuss the opportunities and challenges for green businesses in the region, and the mechanisms for promoting green businesses. We also discuss the implications of greening businesses for companies’ financial and environmental bottom lines.
