Enhancing ADB’s Support for Social Protection to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals: Sri Lanka - 2018 Social Protection Indicator

In 2018, Sri Lanka’s overall Social Protection Indicator (SPI) value stood at 3.15%. Social insurance, at 2.50%, was the largest component when disaggregated by social protection category. The values were 0.60% and 0.01% for social assistance and labor market programs, respectively. The overall SPI has slightly decreased from 2015, from 3.17%. Nonetheless, social protection expenditure has increased from SLRs 397,295 million in 2018, compared to SLRs361,244 million in 2015. It is a 10% increase in total expenditure in 3 years.
