The Social Protection Indicator (SPI) is derived from assessing the total social protection expenditure across all potential beneficiaries compared to Vanuatu’s gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. The social protection expenditure indicator rose from 1.2% of GDP in 2015 to 2.9% in 2018.
Social insurance is delivered by the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF). The SPI for social insurance in 2018 is estimated at 0.9% of GDP per capita, down from a revised estimate of 1.3% in 2015. Social
