In 2018, Viet Nam’s overall Social Protection Indicator (SPI) is 4.52%, revealing that the average social protection expenditure per capita in Viet Nam was 4.52% of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, compared to the 2015 SPI of 4.12%. The total expenditure for all social protection programs increased from 6.31% in 2015 to 6.82% in 2018. In absolute terms, the total social protection spending in 2018 was 1.42 times higher than that of 2015, reaching D378.1 trillion.
