The report is structured as follows. The next section provides an overview of the Social Protection system, including its institutional setup, and then looking at the main programs, providing a short description, outlining budget and number of beneficiaries. The third section considers the main recent socio-economic reforms and the existing preliminary evidence of their impact, reporting on the findings of a recent World Bank (WB) study, but also highlighting the emerging main needs faced by the population. The fourth section looks at the ongoing and planned reform initiatives within social protection. In fact, the Government is aware of the risks involved in the economic reforms and intends to improve the ability of the social protection system in supporting people and households who need time to adapt to the new circumstances. Finally, the last section provides an initial summary of the emerging challenges for Social Protection in Uzbekistan.
