Afghanistan’s 2018 Social Protection Indicator (SPI) is about 0.4% of its gross domestic product (GDP), or about AF5.6 billion. In 2009, SPI expenditures totaled AF2.9 billion, so the government’s social protection expenditures have indeed improved. The overall 2018 SPI shows less focus on women, however, with the average per capita social protection expenditures for women at only about 0.08% of GDP per capita.
