The Avian Sensitivity Tool for Energy Planning (AVISTEP) is designed to support the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure with careful consideration of the potential impacts on birdlife and biodiversity.
This brochure provides an overview of AVISTEP and highlights the need for strategic planning in renewable energy expansion to identify low-risk sites that have little impact on fragile ecosystems, particularly avian biodiversity and bird populations. Developed by BirdLife International and ADB, AVISTEP’s spatial assessment of avian sensitivity can help increase infrastructure and meet ambitious renewable energy targets while mitigating the impacts on birds as well as their migratory routes and habitats.
